From San Marcos Record: Off to State competition will go these five San Marcos High School students after winning first at regional meets in San Antonio last Saturday. Lynn Spivey, left will compete in the shot-put event at the State Track Meet while the four girls, left to right, Beth Ellis, Fay Cliett, Marilyn Turpin, and Mary Kay Turpin will enter speech events. Stanley Leffingwell, right, missed the state meet by an eyelash as he placed second in boy's extemporaneous speaking in regional.

From San Marcos Record: Speech students from San Marcos High School under the tutelage of Bill Dibrell on the right worked their way into the finals of several categories and taking one first place medal in the Howard Payne University Speech Tournament held in Brownwood. Left to right are Marilynn Turpin, David Ramsey, Sandra Jackson, Beth Ellis, Stanley Leffingwell and Fay Cliett who took top honors in poetry reading.
