Description
This event was held at The Wittliff Collections for the opening exhibition of Viva Jerry Jeff!, which celebrates the origin and wild times of a Texas icon, Jerry Jeff Walker. Opening begins with three songs sung by folk singer, Rachel Laven. Music curator, Hector Saldaña, interviewed Susan Walker (Jerry Jeff's spouse and manager) and Jerry Jeff (recording artist) about their careers and relationship.

A House of Her Own, Sandra Cisneros in conversation with John Phillip Santos

Description
Symposium event celebrating the exhibition and archives opening of Sandra Cisneros collection. Introductory remarks by David Coleman (Director of the Wittliff Collections), Denise Trauth (President of Texas State University), Katie Salzmann (lead archivist), and Steve Davis (Curator). Sandra Cisneros then gave a brief introduction about herself, explained why she choose to donate her archives to Texas State, and a reading. This was followed by a conversation with John Phillip Santos and concluded by a question and answer session.

Camp Logan: Discussion and Dramatic Reading

Description
A dramatic reading by the Texas State student actors from Camp Logan, the NAACP Image Award-winning play by Celeste Bedford Walker. The play is based on real-life events in Houston in 1917, when members of the highly decorated 24th Infantry Regiment were subjected to extreme Jim Crow treatment. Walker's nuanced, suspenseful dramatization details the buildup to the riot that left dozens dead, including 17 African American soldiers hanged for mutiny. The reading is followed by a conversation by Dr. Sandra Mayo (Professor Emeritus at Texas State) with the playwright, Celeste Beford Walker.

Literary Frontiers: Historical Fiction & the Creative Imagination

Description
This event celebrates the literary frontiers of historical fiction and creative imagination and highlights the real-life aspirations and the creative process of authors This public conversation about the creative process was moderated by Steve Davis (Curator of the Southwestrern Collection) and featured three acclaimed Texas authors, Elizabeth Crook, Stephen Harrigan and Ann Weisgarber.

This event showcases Bill Wittliff's latest book,The Devil's Fork, a tale that concludes the enthralling journey through wild and woolly Central Texas in the 1880s. David Coleman (Director of the Wittliff Collections) moderated a conversation between Wittliff and Edward Carey, the illustrator of this latest book. They discuss how they worked together on the story and illustrations, followed by a question and answer session.

LBJ: The Promise of Education

Description
This program contains a compilation of still photos taken on the day President Lyndon B. Johnson came to Texas State University to sign the Education Act of 1965. It also contains portions of the speech he gave in addition to comments by others on LBJ and this historic piece of legislation. Narration by: President Lyndon B. Johnson, SWT President Robert L.
