LBJ: The Promise of Education

Description
This program contains a compilation of still photos taken on the day President Lyndon B. Johnson came to Texas State University to sign the Education Act of 1965. It also contains portions of the speech he gave in addition to comments by others on LBJ and this historic piece of legislation. Narration by: President Lyndon B. Johnson, SWT President Robert L. Margaret Carney reminisces about her life in Chilton and Waco during WWI and WWII. She reflects on her work in the USO as a hostess and director of the service club at North Camp Hood and South Camp Hood where she was paid to sing, dance, and play piano for the soldiers. Along with recalling certain popular songs, dances, and momentous events like V-E Day and V-J Day, she discusses the camps' soldiers and German POWs.

Pat Norwood oral history interview

Description
Pat Norwood talks about the different positions at Texas State he has held from the 1930s through the 1960s and the responsibilities that came with those positions, including his work as the principal of the campus training school and director of public services. He relayed memories of his travels throughout Texas recruiting students for the university. He recalls Dr. Flowers, his work as secretory for the Gilmer-Aiken Committee in 1947, and work in the Rotary Club in the 1940s and 1950s.
