Cover story on Drunks Agains Mad Mothers

Gus and Betty Dressen discuss their German family heritage and growing up near Uhland, Texas. Along with describing what it was like to grow up on a farm, the couple share the responsibilities that come with that kind of lifestyle, such as taking care of animals, growing corn and sugar cane, and other aspects including having a blacksmith shop. They also talk about how life back then is different from now, such as paved roads, cars, electricity, and going into town.

Lewis Eckols began working for GVEC in 1947 and was manager of the electric operations division at Gonzales.  He talks about how he worked his way up the career ladder at GVEC to his current position of manager of the electric operations division, what he and his branch's responsibilities are, and what he believes makes GVEC unique.

Steve Slaughter talks about his responsibilities as a manager and those of the divisions he oversees at GVEC. He also discusses some of GVEC's accomplishments and what he sees in the co-op's future.

From 1999-2001, NASA partnered with History students at Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State) to conduct interviews with former employees who lived in the Central Texas area. Interviewees include managers, engineers, technicians, doctors, astronauts, and other employees of NASA and aerospace contractors who served in key roles during the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, and Shuttle programs.
